CANTON — A former Canton woman was jailed after allegedly getting a child drunk and having sex with him.

Amanda L. Matott, 23, of 3626 County Route 14, Madrid, was arrested by Canton Police at about 8 p.m. Friday and charged with second-degree rape, a class D felony, and first-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and unlawfully dealing with a child, all class A misdemeanors.

A multi-agency investigation that included St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services and Child Protective Department, which began in July, revealed that Ms. Matott, formerly of Canton Manor Apartments, served a 13-year-old alcohol before engaging in sexual activity.

Child Protective Services contacted Canton Police after they received a tip that the incident took place, Canton Police Sgt. Basil W. Cheney said.

“The child was an acquaintance of hers, that’s how he came to be in her company,” Sgt. Cheney said Monday.

The alleged incident took place at Ms. Matott’s former address, police said.

Ms. Matott is being held at the St. Lawrence County jail in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond with additional charges pending.
