Marcia B. Archambeault

Marcia Barbour Archambeault died peacefully during sleep early Friday morning August 9th, at age 86, in St. Louis, Missouri, after rapid decline of health this year. She passed on her husband Conrad’s 89th birthday at their shared home with their middle son Paul’s family. Here, they have enjoyed great care, support, and comfort since 2007, also surrounded regularly by St. Louis area grand and great grand children, with visits by all others “back east” and “north”.

In addition to her pride as mother of three sons, Marcia was a loyal secretary and administrative assistant in the Purchasing Department and executive secretary in the Primary Metals Department at Alcoa Aluminum for 27 years until retirement in 1989.

Born October 3, 1926, in Massena, the fourth child of Glenn and Alice O’Driscoll Barbour, Marcia graduated from Massena High School (1944), married Conrad A. Archambeault (July 12, 1947) at Sacred Heart Church. She also trained at a Rochester Business school, airplane spotted briefly during WWII, operated switchboard for Bell, and clerked at B.O. Kinney Drugstore.

As an avid follower of local and national politics, she corresponded often with congressional personnel on timely topics, supported political parties and causes, and as elections volunteer, and was involved in Massena Community Action Group. She always loved reading, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and added computer solitaire and free cell in later years. She was a substantial supporter of her church and many causes close to her heart. Marcia deeply believed in God as a lifelong committed Roman Catholic, intensely cared about her Family, and was truly a proud American.

Marcia & Conrad shared 66 years during which they raised three sons, all born in Homecroft area at their Washington Street home (1947). They constructed their house in Louisville house and moved (1967), returned to Massena at Allen Street (1971). After retirement, they moved to St. Louis (1990), then returned to live on Nightengale Avenue (1992). Finally, they exited Massena for St. Louis to establish more family support as health issues evolved (2007).

Of the six Barbour children In Marcia’s family, only Mrs. Mary Alice (+Rodney) Demo ( Massena) remains. They are predeceased by: Mr. Charles & (Elaine) Barbour, (North Carolina); Mrs. Dorothy & Kenneth Kirkey (Las Vegas); Mr. Ralph & Helen Barbour (Indianapolis); Mr. Robert & Lorraine Barbour, Detroit.

Marcia was joined together by her three surviving sons and Conrad for the last time June 19, 2013. Theye are: David & Karlene (Hartford); Paul & Kathy (St. Louis); Jeff & Joan (Sturgeon Falls, Ontario).

Mrs. Archambeault’s ashes will be present at a funeral mass Saturday, August 17, at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Imperial, Missouri, followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery.

For those considering Masses to be celebrated, she suggests St. Mary’s in Massena as an option, while donations might go to a charity of your own choice.
