Former Ohio Rep. Betty Sutton was sworn in Tuesday as administrator of the U.S. St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp., according to a Seaway news release.
She is the U.S. Seaways 10th administrator, a position filled by presidential appointment that carries a seven-year term.
Ms. Sutton, a Democrat, represented Ohios 13th district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2012. Following a congressional redistricting, she lost her seat in 2012 to Republican Rep. Jim Renacci, representing the 16th district.
The U.S. Seaway Corp. and its Canadian counterpart, St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp., oversee the operation and maintenance of the Seaway from Montreal to Lake Erie.
