New manager working at Canton Corning plant

DEKALB — A new plant manager has started work at Canton’s Corning Inc. plant, McAdoo Road.

David T. Lucht has replaced Peter J. Aagaard, who served as the plant’s manager for the past 2 years.

The appointment was effective Aug. 1, said Joseph Dunning, Corning spokesman.

A Corning employee for the past 18 years, Mr. Lucht spent the past 11 years in Corning’s environmental technology business. He and his family plan to move to Potsdam this summer.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Pittsburgh University.

Mr. Aaggard has been employed by Corning for 28 years and has been assigned to a new role as senior project manager, advanced optics engineering.

The Canton plant produces specialty glass that’s used to supply markets around the world for the semiconductor industry, including companies in Japan and Germany.

The factory also started making radome, a material used in the federal defense industry. Radome covers radar antennae. A product called Polarcor also is produced there, as well as windows for space vehicles and other aerospace products.

About 200 salaried and production employees work at the plant.
