To The Editor:

United Steelworkers Local 450-A is writing this letter in support of our brothers and sisters of CSEA, PEF, and NYSCOBA, who represent the highly skilled workers at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center. Our membership realizes the need for such a vital facility here in Upstate New York. With the unemployment rate, illegal drug abuse, and rising crime rates, along with the unfunded mandates that we as tax payers are paying for that leaves no funding for programs for our children and the elderly only shows the need that we have for specialty services like ones provided by them. With the average family living paycheck to paycheck, they will not be able to send or visit their loved ones who require these services downstate.

In closing everyone out there should take a minute to support this service. Speak up for our children who will be the ones that suffer the most from the loss of this facility. Keep the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center open!

David W. LaClair, Jr.

President, USW Local 450-A
