Lost hiker is found

CANTON — A lone hiker from Canton who had been lost for several days in the Adirondacks was found Thursday on the Northville-Placid Trail from Lake Placid to Long Lake.

State Department of Environmental Conservation dispatch in Ray Brook was notified Thursday morning that Larry White, 58, had been expected to arrive in Long Lake the previous day but was overdue.

Forest rangers and a state police helicopter searched the 37-mile section of the Northville-Placid Trail, surrounding trail systems and wilderness before finding Mr. White about 4:30 p.m. near Noah Rondeau’s Hermitage.

Peter Constantakes, acting director of public information for DEC, said in an email that Mr. White appeared exhausted and dehydrated.

He was given food and water and taken out of the woods on an all-terrain vehicle for further evaluation.

Mr. White refused medical treatment and went home with his family, Mr. Constantakes said.

In addition to the state police helicopter, 10 forest rangers took part in the search.
