Canton lady golfers play poker


CANTON - Eleven ladies came out for Ladies’ Day at the St. Lawrence University Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, despite threatening clouds.

A few players waited out the ensuing ain and then played Lady Poker.

In this game, the best, i.e. lowest, poker hand based on golf scores for each nine holes won the contest.

Lady Poker Front 9 winner: Pam Sherburne - 5 fives. Back 9 winners: Julie Degone and Debbie Ormasen - 4 fives

Low Gross: Debbie Ormasen – 90, Julie Degone – 91. Low Net: Laura Chambers - 65, Pam Sherburne - 68.

Closest to the Pin: Debbie Ormasen – Hole #3.

Longest Putt: Debbie Ormasen - Hole #6.

Chip-ins: Pat Harrington and Patti Francis .

The 50/50 winner (supporting NNY 2014) was Debbie Ormasen.

Tuesday is the last Foothills Tournament of the summer and is being hosted by Gouverneur Country Club.


On Thursday 68 ladies participated in the 14th annual St. Lawrence Oliver D. Appleton Golf Club Ladies Invitational.

Local winners in the two-person team event were: Linda Stone and Julie Degone 1st in flight #2; Patti Francis and Gisele Jolicoeur 2nd in flight #5; Lennie McKinnon and Patti Rowan-Lalonde 3rd in flight #1; Juanita White and Claire LaGarry (Potsdam) 3rd in flight #2; Candy LaMacchia and Toledo Mathews 3rd in flight #4; and Debbie Prier and Diane McCaw (Ottawa) 3rd in flight #5.
