LOUISVILLE - The River Valley Redevelopment Agency has tabled renewing its contract with the Massena Electric Department, which would allow for the marketing and management of 20 megawatts of power.
Board member Vernon Sam D. Burns said at Tuesdays meeting that he had concerns with the contract, but will wait until next month to voice them when Massena Electric Superintendent Andrew J. McMahon is present.
According to the contract, the Massena Electric Department would manage and market 20 megawatts of hydropower that was allocated to the River Agency by the New York Power Authority in 2010.
The 20 megawatts of power would equate to about $3 million each year for five years and an undetermined portion of that thereafter indefinitely.
MEDs expertise is more than managing the power, they have been involved in helping to selling to major power users in Ontario and beyond, Deputy Industrial Development Agency CEO Thomas A. Plastino said.
The contract between the River Agency and Massena Electric Department expired on June 30.
