LISBON Planned renovations to the Parkway Ford dealership, 9890 Route 37, have been moved to mid-January as the dealership works to get final approval from the town to start the project.
The project received approval by the Planning Board on Monday, but construction cannot begin until the dealership obtains a building permit. The business is awaiting a cost estimate from Ford, and Lisbon Code Enforcement Officer Christopher J. Sherwin said he will issue a building permit for the project once the estimate has been submitted.
Mr. Sherwin said he expects to have the estimate within the next several weeks.
The dealership had planned to begin construction in November. Michael T. Webster, Parkway Ford director of operations, said the project will bring the building in line with other Ford dealerships across the nation.
It was totally designed by Ford, Mr. Webster said. He said he expects the project to be completed by next summer.
Because a large part of the project will focus on the buildings interior, much of the work will be completed during the winter, Mr. Sherwin said.
Mr. Webster said there will be a drive-in service area as well as a new reception area with wireless Internet access and more comfortable seating. It will be one of the most state-of-the-art car dealerships in St. Lawrence County when its completed, he said.
The building also will get a new facade, Mr. Webster said.
The project has been planned since the dealership moved its Potsdam Ford location to Lisbon last year.
