The city of Ogdensburg has begun making available to the public its assessment roll and other property information through the St. Lawrence County Real Property Office.
City Assessor C. Bruce Green said Tuesday that the new arrangement means greater accessibility of city records at the county Real Property Office. The county real property aides are now able to answer more questions when they receive calls regarding parcels that are within the city of Ogdensburg.
Until recently, the public needed to call the city assessors office for information on the 4,094 taxable properties in the city. The real property office in Canton, according to Mr. Green, didnt always have current city information.
This puts more information out there, he said. Transparency, so to speak.
The citys 2013 final assessment roll and 2013 tax maps are on the city website at www.ogdensburg.org and the countys website, www.co.st-lawrence.ny.us. Potential users, Mr. Green said, include realtors, appraisers, law firms and individual property owners.
They might want to find out what a lot size is, he said. Now they have current information.
Mr. Green said there is no shortage of callers to his office who first called the county real property office and were unable to get the information they sought.
Overall, we get about 20 calls a week on things like that, he said. This brings the city into the fold.
The city information is also available on the Software Development Group, a subscription-based service provided by the real property office. SDG provides updated daily property information such as new owner information. City tax information can also be found at www.totalcollectionsolution.com.
