The Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad will find out Thursday what it takes to respond to emergencies from the air. The public is invited to watch at 6:30 p.m. as a LifeNet of New York helicopter lands at the squad at 1223 Pickering St. and its crew explains to the volunteers how to respond in the event of a real emergency that requires air response.
Its a training to teach us how to approach a helicopter, said squad emergency medical technician Colin M. Sayer. Its training that we have to have.
That training includes staying clear of the copters rotating blades while loading and unloading injured passengers.
Theres a right way to do it and theres a wrong way to do it, Mr. Sayer said. And you got to make sure that the landing zone is clear of debris.
