NORWOOD - The Northern Oldtimers Modified Softball League will be holding its playoff tournament in Norwood this weekend.

The Norwood Legion enters the tournament as the top seed after going undefeated through the regular season and should expect to face a strong challenge as the top three seeds entering last summer’s playoffs were eliminated early.

Games are slated for the diamonds behind the former Norwood Grade School and at the Norwood Sports Park.

Along with the coveted team playoff champion being crowned on Sunday, league officials will be presenting a host of awards over the course of the weekend including the enshrinement of four stalwarts into the Hall of Fame - current league president Gary Gladding, Terry Gladding, Ned Meader and Terry Steinburg. On Saturday at 1 p.m., a total of 32 players and coaches will be receiving all-star trophies for their efforts this summer. Following the title game, MVP awards will be presented to the top outfielders, infielder, pitcher and batter.

Oldtimers softball features a straight modified bowling style of pitching which is challenging but not overpowering and players ages range from 35-70.

League officials are already looking for new teams and players to compete next season and anyone interested in doing so should contact Gary Gladding at 769-8117 or Bob ‘Bear’ Doran at 384-4350.
