GOUVERNEUR - Emma M. Halpin, 100, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur.
A graveside service will be announced later in the fall and arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Emma was born in DeGrasse on November 27, 1912, the daughter of Foster and Lena Duncan VanSant.
She attended rural school in DeGrasse and Russell High School.
Emma married John F. Halpin on November 6, 1939 at St. James Church, Gouverneur with Rev. C.J. Crowley officiating. Mr. Halpin passed away September 20, 1965.
Emma worked as a domestic before employment at Rushmore Paper Company. She retired in 1977 from SUNY Potsdam where she worked in the housekeeping department.
She was a member of St. James Church, Gouverneur Senior Citizens, and the Gouverneur Birthday Club. She enjoyed visits to the casino, playing bingo, and playing cards with the ladies in her pitch club. Emma also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Emma is survived by her son and his wife Charlie and Kim Halpin of Gouverneur, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by a sister Geneva Gilmore and her parents.
