Dr. Joyce Dallaportas, 84, Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, August 21st at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she had been a patient for 5 days.

The family will receive friends starting at 11 am Tuesday, August 27th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 12 noon, at St. Vasilio’s Greek Orthodox Church, 502 Franklin St., Watertown with Rev. Philip Yanulis officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vasilio’s Church, 502 Franklin St., Watertown, NY 13601.

She was born in Watertown a daughter to Angelo and Vivian Dallaportas. Joyce graduated from Watertown High School. Following her graduation from high school, she continued her education at the Albany Business School and St. Basil’s Academy in Tarrytown, NY. Joyce completed her education at Syracuse University where she received her P.H.D. in English. Dr. Dallaportas taught English at Watertown High School for several years, later becoming a professor with the faculty in the English department at Syracuse University for many years. Following her career in education, she turned her talents as an Artist to restoring paintings and other works of Art.

Dr. Dallaportas is survived by her brother Dr. William Dallas, Watertown. A sister Helen Dennis, Arizona. Nieces and nephews. A sister Constance “Dina” Dallaportas predeceased her.
