GOUVERNEUR Antiques in the Park, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, is in its 20th year of raising money for E.J. Noble Hospital.
Its a good fundraiser, said Carrie L. Porter, who organizes the event with Linda Love for the E.J. Noble Hospital Auxiliary. I think we raised $4,000 last year.
This years event will allow the Auxiliary to contribute toward hospital equipment.
Were trying to purchase with this money a portable X-ray machine, Mrs. Porter said. We like to say where the moneys going.
The event in the village park will feature 15 vendors, including one winery.
In addition to booth fees from vendors, money raised comes from a bake sale, raffles of baskets filled with sundry items, and a raffle that features as a prize an antique dresser and mirror or a hand-carved frame that holds $100 worth of lottery tickets.
Weather for the event is expected to be clear with a high of about 75 degrees.
This is our 20th year. It has never rained, Mrs. Porter said. Weve never had an alternate site. If we did, it would probably rain.
Mrs. Porter attributed the on-going success of the event to the popularity of antiques and the pleasant setting.
I think theres a lot of people who are collectors, she said.
