Seniorama 2013 says thanks

To The Editor:

The 22nd annual Seniorama was held Aug. 14 at the Roos House, SUNY Canton. The beautiful facility was enjoyed by all. This year we had 100 vendors. Area hospitals, banks and credit unions, St. Lawrence County agencies, home care businesses, insurance companies, nursing homes, optometrists, chiropractors, entertainment organizations, pharmacies, political representatives, public utilities, senior organizations and associations, and support services for seniors were all in attendance. A huge thank-you to all the vendors, business who took out ads in our Seniorama booklet and those who contributed the over 100 door prizes that were given throughout the day. Your continued support for seniors is greatly appreciated. Seniors were able to talk one on one with the many participants and received information and goodies about each.

Thank you to the Canton Veterans of Foreign Wars for leading off our opening ceremony, to Dick Cota for leading the Pledge of Allegiance, to Diane Foote for a beautiful National Anthem and to Rob Schirmer of Hospice for his thoughts and opening prayer. Thank you to Marie “Dolly” Kirwan for your chair yoga demonstration, to Ed Gordon who taught us where and how to do bargain shopping in St. Lawrence County, and to Neil Johnson who talked about the SOAR program at SUNY Potsdam. A big thanks to The Shermans and Friend, Bernie and Jim Sherman and Reeves Adair, for filling in with music after the Senior Idol had to be canceled.

Congratulations to raffle ticket winners Pat Weaver, who won first place, Ruth Smutz, who won second place, and Sylvia Despaw, who won third place. Seniorama 2013 would not have been a success without the help from all the committee members for the last six months, and the chapter members who helped ifll int he holds on the 14th.
