The town of Watertown Fire Department will hold an open house for its new station on County Route 202 on Sept. 7.

The station, which has four truck bays, was built to protect the town’s growing west side, according to First Assistant Chief Ralph A. Green, Jr., co-chairman of the building committee.

The department moved into the facility about a month ago, Mr. Green said.

The station was built to replace a 25-year-old satellite station that only housed a single fire engine. The new station will allow the department to respond more readily to Salmon Run Mall and other businesses along Route 3, Mr. Green told the Times in February.

The new station also features four rooms where students in Jefferson Community College’s fire science program will be able to participate in a bunk-in program, exchanging volunteer time for accommodations and experience.
