Mini Triathlon was a success

To The Editor:

The 10th annual Lisbon Mini Triathlon was held at Lisbon Beach Aug. 18. We had a total of 47 athletes ranging in age from 5 to 14 who competed in this race.

Many thanks go out to the volunteers who not only show up on race day but are very instrumental with all the behind-the-scenes work that makes this event a success. Thank you, Mark and Becky Akins, Mike and Jamie Sovie, Jim and Rita Crowley, George Dillingham, and Larry and Sheila Mehaffy for all your guidance and behind-the-scenes work.

On the day of the race we had many volunteers on hand. A special thank-you to our previous triathlon athletes who are now members of our triathlon committee: Colleen and Connor Hammond, Allison Akins, Allison, Beth and Maggie Crowley, Eric Mehaffy, and new this year, Jesse Braun.

Thank you for doing such a nice job and being such dedicated volunteers. You did a great job with the athletes and are wonderful role models. In addition, a few members of the Homecoming Committee were present also. A huge thank-you goes out to Judy Martin, Cindy Carr, and Jen Gray. Your help with the biker’s transition was much appreciated.

I would also like to thank Olympia Sports and Price Chopper for their donations, as well as Collins-Hammond Electric for supplying the athletes with a healthy snack of fruit, water and Gatorade while the results were being finalized.

Thank you also to Mike O’Neil and his staff at Lisbon Beach. You are very helpful in providing us with an area that is safe and fun to stage our triathlon. Thanks to the Lisbon Fire Department for being on hand in case of any emergencies. Thank you also, Mike Backus, for allowing us to borrow the pylons and flags from the Homecoming race to help us keep our athletes safe. Lastly, thanks to Dave Shea for his outstanding coverage on race day.

We hope to see everyone again next summer.
