It was anything but a summer of discontent for the North Country water ski contingent of the father-son duo of Matt and Tristan Richardson of Ogdensburg and Nick Leuthauser of Hannawa Falls.
The trio combined to win United Skates Water Ski Association state, regional and national championships.
Tristan Richardson, a 10-year old fifth grader, won Boys 1 state championships in slalom and trick skiing at Penfield, N.Y. He moved to the regionals at Canajoharie, N.Y. and competing against competitors from Maine to Virginia placed second behind Brody Keller of Connecticut. Another Connecticut skier, Chase Gulick, placed third.
Qualifying for the nationals at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach, FL. he placed eighth. Matt Richardson and Nick Leuthauser both enjoyed gold medal moments competing in the Mens 2 Division Slalom. Richardson placed first and Leuthauser took second in the Regional Championships at Canajoharie, N.Y. which involved skiers from Maine to Virginia. Both advanced to the National Championships in West Palm Beach, Fla, where Leuthauser took first and Richardson placed third.
