It’s back to school next week for the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club, where several programs will be offered to its members for when they are not in the classroom.

Executive Director Thomas P. Luckie Jr. said Thursday the club will offer students in kindergarten through 12th grade a Kids College program that will use computers at its John E. Claxton Memorial Learning Center to increase proficiency in mathematics, science and reading.

“I’m really excited about this,” he said. “It’s really going to help the kids. To get them excited about learning is a good thing.”

The program is funded through a grant from the United Way of Northern New York.

The first day of school is Sept. 5.

Beginning Sept. 8, the club at 610 Paterson St. will return to its school year hours of 2:30 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. In November, it will be open Saturdays from 6 to 11 p.m.

Other traditional after school activities and programs returning to the club this fall are healthy snacks, homework help, tutoring, mentoring and indoor touch football.

“We’ll do special events periodically,” Mr. Luckie said.

On Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. at adjoining Father Martin Field, the club will host the local competition of the National Football League-sanctioned Punt, Pass and Kick contest.

On Sept. 12, the club will hold a kids dinner from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

On Sept. 16, students from Madill Elementary School and St. Marguerite D’Youville Academy will be bused to the club after school.

The club will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2014.
