Salmon River boys open soccer season with win

SARANAC - The Salmon River Central varsity boys soccer team kicked off the 2013 season by blanking Northern Adirondack Central 3-0 in the first round of the Saranac Central Early Bird Tournament on Friday.

Josh Hynes netted the only goal the Shamrocks would need when he converted on an assist from B. Burns in the 23rd minute. Nick Hynes made it 2-0 just four minutes into the second half assisted by Burns then set up Antoine Domino for the final goal with less than nine minutes left in regulation.

Zach Smith handled the six shots he faced to log the shutout while A. Kerr posted eight saves for the Bobcats.

OTHER BOYS OPENERS

In other season-opening action on Friday night, host OFA downed Norwood-Norfolk 6-0 in the first round of the Gerald Cring Memorial Tournament while Lisbon blanked Gouverneur 4-0 and Canton fell 4-0 to Beekmantown in the first round of the Chazy Tournament.

OFA 6, N-N 0: The host Blue Devils worked their way to a commanding 3-0 halftime lead as Nate Peo connected for three goals, including the eventual game-winner in the 12th minute assisted by Matt Piercey. Peyton Lalone tallied a goal and assist. David Prudhomme drew a pair of helpers while Conor Hannan and Dylan Binion broke through for the other goals and Jordan Miller logged a solo assist.

Jacob Sias worked the crease for six saves in posting the shutout while Garrett Waite turned aside 19 shots in the losing cause.

OFA and Lisbon will square off in the championship game tonight starting at 8 p.m. after N-N and Gouverneur meet in the consolation game at 6 p.m. at the football field.

Lisbon 4, Gouverneur 0: The Golden Knights scored twice in each half and Issac Sovie preserved the shutout with a beautiful leaping save on his only save of the night.

Jake Putney figured in both first half goals by setting Adam Kelley in thr 23rd minute and coming back to scored off a nice set up from Kane Jordan two minutes later.

Jimmy Robinson, playing in the field after handling the goaltending duties for three years, figured in both goals of the second half. Robinson used a nice through pass to set up Kelley and scored from close range off a pass from Jake Pellerin.

Seth Carr made 10 saves in goal for Gouverneur.
