HAMMOND - As the 2013 fall sports season approaches, the Hammond Varsity Girls and Boys Soccer camps will be addressing several key graduations losses.
Coach Shawn Dacks girls soccer team must replace three outstanding leaders including Alyssa Crosby (12 goals), Gabby Marshall, and Macy Wilson.
Coach Katina Dillons boys team must replace Darin Bresett, Nolan Martin, Caleb Christman, and Adam Bickelhaupt.
But both Red Devil bands have proven leaders to rebuild around.
The Lady Red Devils return proven scorer junior Courtney Bova (19 goals in regular season) and senior Tayler Bowman (nine goals) and senior defender Emily Bush.
Mikayla Horton, Cassie Whalen and Kaitlin Gleason return as juniors and Hailey Ogden, Melissa Proven, and Abby Hodgdon are returning sophomores.
First year performers include Ally Crosby (eight grader), Paige Frisina (freshman), Morgan Hanley (freshman), Marinah Simons (freshman), Mariah Simons (freshman), and sophomore Madison Mullikin.
I really like the look of our team and I believe once they gain their experience I think they will be fine. We just have to cut our teeth fast. During our scheduled scrimmage our eyes should be opened there, said Coach Dack. Once they gain the feel of the varsity game good things will occur. So far we are working hard and building the chemistry and as I said earlier I like the look of what we are and where we are going.
The Red Devil boys return just two seniors but a host of juniors have varsity experience. We dont have many seniors but our juniors gained valuable playing time last season and have looked solid early, said Coach Dillon.
Colin Martin and Zach Howie are returning seniors and join juniors Tristen Simons, Cordell Martin Peyton Frisina, Jon Winchester, Matt Martin, Zech Cunningham, Brock Tulley, and Jaylyn Raglin. Sophomore Nick Jewitt is a solid player and will be joined by classmates Spenser Pease, Colin Youngs, Jacob Tate and Mason Rogers. Devin Leach and Dustin Simons round out the team as first-year seniors.
