He would be back at the police station within - this time with a ride courtesy of the Massena Village Police, handcuffed and facing a felony burglary count.
Village police charged Nathan A. Thrana, 16, 227 Main St. Apt. 1, Massena, with second-degree burglary and misdemeanor counts of petit larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was arraigned before Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and released under the supervision of the probation department with stipulations he abide by a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew and commit no further offenses.
He is charged with stealing a bicycle from an enclosed porch at 245 Center St., taking to the residence on Main Street where he lives with his grandmother and spray painting the blue bicycle black to cover its stickers.
I saw the bicycle sitting inside the enclosed porch... I opened the door and took the bike from the house. When I got home, I pulled the rims off the bicycle and spray painted it with black paint just enough so it would cover the stickers, Thrana said in a statement he reportedly signed for police.
Megan M. Spoon said she was dropping her sister in law off on Tamarack Street when she saw two young men walking on East Orvis Street with three bicycles. I noticed one bike looked like one of my sons, she said.
She said when they returned home shortly before 5 p.m. her son looked on the front porch and discovered his bicycle was missing. She said she and her son then went looking for his bike, enlisting the assistance of a cousin that Ms. Spoon said she knew could identify the teen she had seen walking the bicycle. Her cousin is reportedly friends with Thrana. She said her cousin told her the alleged bike thiefs name was Nathan.
Ms. Spoon said they crossed the Parker Avenue Bridge and noticed another teen, who was also friends with the alleged bike thief, and he was able to provide them with the alleged bike thiefs last name and tell them that Thrana lived across in a white apartment building from the old KFC building on Main Street.
I then drove over there and noticed a group of kids taking apart a bike. I jumped out of my car and said, Thats my sons bike. What do you think you are doing with it? Nathan stated to me that he was the one who took the bike and that he was sorry. I noticed that my sons bike had been damaged, she said, noting she then reported the incident to police,
