Two-car accident with injuries reported in town of Denmark

DENMARK — A Herkimer County man is being treated at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse following a two-vehicle accident that occurred about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday near routes 410 and 26 in the town of Denmark.

Witnesses at the scene reported the cause of the accident was one driver attempting to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.

According to communication by Lewis County radio dispatchers, a man was trapped and reported to have respiratory distress. A helicopter was called to the scene to transport the victim, but later canceled because of weather. That man later was identified by state police as Jeffrey J. Bliss, 35, town of Mohawk. According to a police report, Mr. Bliss was taken via ambulance to Syracuse, where he underwent surgery. His condition was not known Monday evening.

The driver of a second vehicle, Timothy Horan, 27, Ballston Lake, is stationed at Fort Drum and suffered minor injuries, according to police.

The accident remains under investigation.
