Joseph M. Poissant, 80, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Monday, September 2, 2013, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center, Wilmington, NC.

He was born in Malone, NY, December 25, 1932, to Moses and Pearl Poissant.

He leaves behind his wife Anita; and daughters, Christine McGurn (Michael), Margaret Poissant, Cathleen Palczewski (Henry), Michelle Pavlock (Chuck), Lisa Edwards (Wayne), Ellen Poissant, and Karen O’Brian (Michael); also seven grandchildren, Kimberly McGurn, Nicole Palczewski, C J Pavlock, Shelby Edwards, Trey Edwards, Jessica Pavlock, and Cody O’Brian; sisters, Agnes Hamilton, Connie Bow, Tim Poissant, Robert Poissant, Richard Poissant and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Michael of Clifton Park, NY, and sister, Theresa of Port St. Lucie, FL preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy and Albany Law School (1957). Mr. Poissant was a founding member and senior partner with the law firm of Poissant, Nichols, Grue, and Vanier.

In 2007, Joe and Anita choose Wilmington, NC as their home. Joe was an avid gardener and enjoyed the beauty of nature. He loved to travel, and in retirement played golf both at the Malone Golf Club and his home course in Ft. Myers, FL. Throughout his life, Joe was active in his church and was a lifetime member of the Malone Lodge of Elks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, NC. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held during the visitation period.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1011 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC. Interment will be at a later date in Notre Dame Cemetery, Malone, NY.

Memorial gifts may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center, 14143 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28401.
