LOWVILLE — Police agencies late last week harvested more than 200 marijuana plants from wooded areas in the towns of West Turin and Croghan.

“It was a good haul,” said Dale W. Roberts, senior investigator at the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, noting it was all done in a single day. “Somebody’s going to have a bad Christmas.”

The plants, amounting to 520 pounds of the drug, were taken as evidence, and an investigation is continuing, with arrests expected, according to a Sheriff’s Department release.

The harvest was a joint effort of the Sheriff’s Department, state police aviation and Community Narcotics Enforcement Team units and state forest rangers.

“As fall approaches, more harvests are expected,” the release adds.
