P-H girls fall to B-M in tourney opener


PARISHVILLE - One-goal victories carried the Brushton-Moira and Tupper Lake girls soccer teams to first round wins at the Community Bank Tournament hosted by Parishville-Hopkinton Central on Friday.

B-M advanced by holding off P-H 2-1 while Tupper Lake outlasted St. Regis Falls 1-0 in games that also served as NAC East Division matchups. The championship game is slated for this morning at 9:30 a.m. at the varsity field while the consolation game kicks-off at 9:15 a.m. on the modified field.

B-M 2, P-H 1: Kenzi Traynor got the Franklin County Lady Panthers off to a fast start when she broke through for goals in the second and seventh minutes assisted by Kendra Mills and Jenna Dufrane and that proved to be the difference.

Kodi Perkins pulled the host Lady Panthers to within one five minutes into the second half off an assist from Nicole White.

Ashley Debeer stood tall working the B-M crease for 19 saves while Kelsey Putnum handled seven of the shots she faced for P-H.


In the lone interdivisional encounter on Friday, Chateaugay downed Salmon River 4-1. The Bulldogs scored the first three goals of the game led by two goals from Danielle Charland who connected in the 13th and 22nd minutes from Hannah Cooke and Katie Beach, respectively. Brianna Cook made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 18th minute.

Tsiotenhariio Herne put the Lady Shamrocks on the board when she converted on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute but Rachel Young converted from Beach in the 75th to seal the win.

Kennedy Boyea (1 save) and Abby Cowan (1 save) combined to backstop the win. Wraven Sunday stopped 12 shots for Salmon River.


In the NAC West Division matchups on Friday; Hammond outscored Edwards-Knox 5-2, Heuvelton dropped Clifton-Fine 8-1, Lisbon clipped Hermon-DeKalb 1-0 and Morristown battled Harrisville to a 1-1 draw.
