After battling cancer for 8 years, Debra L. Motyka, 48, passed away in her home in Watertown, NY on September 4th, 2013, under the care of her loving family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Debbie was born on August 15th, 1965 in Watertown, NY to Edward Nier and Mary Margaret Stevenson Nier.

She was a hard worker who worked as a bus monitor along with various other food service jobs. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and shopping at yard sales. Everything Debbie did, she did with great gumption and a big smile on her face. She always brought life to everything she touched. Debbie once said, she loved attending her children’s sporting events and never missed a chance to see her kids play. Debbie was a loving mother who supported her children in all that they did and was proud of each and every one of them.

Debbie was previously married to Ted Gardner, and they have three children together. She leaves behind her sons Troy Gardner and his wife Jen, Trevor Gardner and his wife Ashley, and a daughter Britney Gardner. Debbie is survived by her two brothers, Eddie Nier and his wife Tonya, Ted Parsons and his wife Regina, and her two sisters Esther Corcoran and Tammy Hernandez and her husband Joseph. Debbie has 3 grandchildren Hunter, Taylor, and Caden. Debbie also leaves behind faithful friend and sister-in-law Ann Runner, as well as several nieces and nephews.

On October 20, 2012, Debbie married Christopher Motyka of Gouverneur. Chris was a devoted husband, and Debbie believed him to be her guardian angel.

Calling hours are Saturday, September 7th from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur. After a short break, a funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
