St. Lawrence Corners- Mr. Donald R. Pierce, age 77, died Thursday at the Samaritan Keep Home where he was a resident.

The funeral will be 11am on Monday, Sept. 9, at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton with Donna Fitchette officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Corners cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5pm at the funeral home.

Don was born February 20th, 1936, in Theresa, the son of Clarence and Flora Webb Pierce. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1955.

On August 30, 1959, he married the former Janet Tallman in Sackets Harbor.

Don worked for a time at the Grand Union Supermarkets in Mexico, Watertown, Clayton and Pulaski. He retired in February of 1998 at Buker’s Big M in Clayton, where he was grocery manager.

He served in the United States Naval Reserves for 12 years.

Don was a former member of the Mexico Lions Club, where he was also King Lion. He was a former member of the Mexico Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge #136.

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, cooking, bowling and coaching little league baseball.

Surviving besides his wife Janet are one son, Robert of Clayton; two daughters and their husbands, Paul and Amy Garceau of LaFargeville, and Tim and Karen Doney of Clayton; three grandchildren, Erin Doney, Ian Doney and Christopher Garceau; one great grandson Brendan; three brothers, William (Ruby) Brady of Cazenovia, Wendell (Eileen) Pierce of Watertown, and Larry Pierce of Brownville; nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Gerald and Clarence Jr. both of Watertown, died before him.

Donations can be made in his name to the Samaritan Keep Home Patient Care Fund.
