As a resident of Waddington, I have noticed the early erection of election signs in places all over the township. The earliest ones were those of Sandy Wright, who is running for supervisor against the incumbent, Mark Scott.

I have no knowledge of Ms. Wright’s credentials or her qualifications to lead this town either politically or administratively. She apparently has lived here for a long time, but I don’t know that.

There was a recent article written very well by Amanda Purcell of the St. Lawrence Newspapers outlining Mr. Scott’s background, experience and accomplishments. I keep looking for something from Ms. Wright but have seen or heard nothing with respect to her background, what she brings to the race and what her platform for the future of the town might be. It would also be great to have an open session with both of the candidates to give them the chance to present their platforms and answer some questions in a carefully managed public forum.

I know that many people know both candidates, but there are many of us who do not know both of them and would like to hear or read what they offer. Mr. Scott has done that, but where is Ms. Wright?

I know that many local races are nothing more than popularity contests where friends and relatives come out to support their candidate with no thought of what the candidate really stands for or what she/he can do with respect to experience and vision. I’d like to put a face and some meaningful dialogue with the red signs I see around town.
