Dockage rates hike in Waddington

WADDINGTON — Docking fees in the village are set to increase next year.

The village Board of Trustees unanimously approved raising its season-long docking fees by $100 per unit, from $350 to $450.

Mooring sites on St. Lawrence Avenue will jump from $75 to $100.

Board member William E. Dashnaw called the old fees, which have not increased in several years, “ridiculous.”

“It costs more than that to maintain it during the year,” he said. “It’s time to reconsider the rates, especially if we’re looking for some kind of revenue to be able to buy a piece of equipment that helps us pick up the trash at all these sites, including at events and areas in the village – the streets, sidewalks, the green area, etc.,” he said.

Mayor Janet M. Otto-Cassada said the costs of maintaining the docks are steadily rising.

“We have to take cranes in and out in the spring and fall,” Ms. Otto-Cassada said. “I think it was last year we replaced 90 percent of the docks, and we increased the dockage.”

Increases to overnight dockage will be considered at the next board meeting, Ms. Otto-Cassada said. The current fee for overnight docking is $10 per night.

“I have also sent a letter to a New York Power Authority representative requesting that we extend the docks down to Maple Street, like we discussed at the last board meeting,” Ms. Otto-Cassada said. “That will have to go through NYPA and the Army Corps of Engineers for approval.”
