Qualcomm awards grant to build student space at Clarkson

POTSDAM - Qualcomm, a longstanding corporate partner of Clarkson University, has awarded Clarkson a $15,000 grant to construct the “Qualcomm Software Engineering Student Project Space” (Q-Space).

Qualcomm awards grant The Q-Space, to be housed in the Center for Advanced Materials Processing building, will be available beginning fall 2013 for use by more than 130 students enrolled in the computer and software engineering program at Clarkson.

“We are extremely grateful to Qualcomm for its continued support of Clarkson University,” said Clarkson President Tony Collins. “This generous grant from Qualcomm will allow Clarkson software and computer engineering students the opportunity to collaborate and learn from peers.”

Software engineering is a discipline that is expected to grow at a rate of more than 30 percent annually for the foreseeable future. Clarkson’s software engineering students will utilize the Q-Space to foster greater camaraderie and teamwork, strengthen the learning environment, and encourage students to engage in extracurricular engineering activities. Interdisciplinary project work is important in the development of lifelong learning skills, the ability to work in teams, and the acquisition of practical engineering skills — all of which are highly valued by industry.
