CRANBERRY LAKE The Clifton Town Council appointed Charles R. Hooven as supervisor after Robert L. Snider resigned in August and moved to Tennessee.
Mr. Hooven, a former town supervisor, had already planned to run for the post in November and is not facing opposition.
They knew I was interested and appointed me immediately, Mr. Hooven said.
Mr. Hooven was first elected Cliftons supervisor in 1979. He served in the post 14 years and was on the council before becoming supervisor again. He worked as a production supervisor at the Newton Falls paper mill for 24 years, at the former McCadam plant in Heuvelton and for MeadWestvaco before retiring.
Mr. Hooven said he thought his past experience in government and manufacturing could help the town so decided to run.
This is my home, he said.
