The gap between rich and poor has widened

We have not heard much about the gap that exists between the rich verses the middle and lower classes of our country lately.

Yet as you all know, it continues to widen. Does it actually make much of a difference if there are a relatively few wealthy people having a huge amount more of the money in our society? What does having money actually mean anyway?

Having a lot of money is something that certainly gives a person a greater economic status. And with that comes a higher social status.

But do you agree that it also increases a person’s political status? We would like to think that we are all equal politically. It just seems to me that someone who has a lot more money will be listened to, particularly if that money finds a way to help so many politicians get elected.

If that is true, than all three of these things are also growing wider: economic, social and political status. The middle and lower classes are losing theirs, while the highest in the high class are certainly adding greatly to theirs.

So having this higher level of status in the hands of so very few of us, do we have a democracy in our country any longer? Will the continuation of status accumulation by the rich make our government irrelevant? Do those who control the economics and politics control the country too?

The Trans Pacific Partnership and Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership could help speed up this process in our country, just as NAFTA and other current federal trade agreements caused the migration of manufacturing outside of the country. How many things in Walmart do you see that are not made in China?

These new FTA’s will nuclearize the process and make the gap grow wider and faster.
