Massena JV football team blanks FA 16-0 in opener

MASSENA - The Massena Central junior varsity football team picked right up where it left off from an undefeated 2012 season, turning back Franklin Academy 16-0 on Saturday at Mike Nicholas Field.

Patrick Manning rushed for 109 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries to lead a balanced junior Raider offense. Jason Zembeck had 40 yards and a two-point conversion on three rushes while quarterback Maddox Merry completed two of seven passes for 35 yards while going for another 22 yards on three carries. Abe Derushia ran for 34 yards on three tries while Ethan Marcello had 13 yards and a two-point conversion on another three rushes and accounted for the other Massena touchdown by returning a recovered fumble 52 yards to the endzone.

Defensively for the junior Raiders, Manning notched 10 tackles and a batted ball. Turner LaFrance had six takedowns while Marcello, Bobby Todd and Nathaniel Bressard each tallied five followed by Merry and Derushia with four apiece. Mason McGill recorded three tackles and a sack while Alonie McGee forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.

Also looking to contribute to the JV football effort for Massena this fall are; Austin Amo, Troi Benedict, Ethan Brothers, Josh Cameron, Devin Collins, Skyler Cree, Brady Currier, Ivan Delosh, Jaden Francis, Jarrett Harvey, Kanietahare, Devin Markes, Logan McGee, Connor McGraw, Cody Peets, Jacob Stiles, Destin Thomas, Carl Thompson, Zachery Ward, Jaret Warriner, Zach Villnave- White, Jonathan Young, Marcus Griffith and Dorian Chaple.

The junior Raiders return to action this Thursday at home against Canton starting at 5:30 p.m.
