HELENA – Mr. Clark Walter Johnstone, 55, County Route 53, unexpectedly passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 evening at his home.
Clark was born April 30, 1958 in Massena, the son of the late Walter W. Johnstone and Ruth Butler Johnstone. He graduated from Massena Central School in 1976 and from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1982.
Clark first worked for Central Foundry before becoming a financial planner first with Metropolitan Life Insurance and then with Woodsmen of the World until his retirement. Clark was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church. He was also a longtime member of the Free and Accepted Masons Massena Lodge #513, where he was currently serving as a Trustee and Past Master. In addition to his Massena Lodge duties, he was the Assistant Grand Lecturer of the 2nd St. Lawrence District, earning the title of Very Worshipful Clark W. Johnstone. Clark was also a 32nd degree Mason with the Scottish Rite, a member of the York Rite Masons, and the Royal Arch Masons Chapter 300, Massena. As an avid snowmobiler, he belonged to the Tri-Town Snowmobile Club, serving as their treasurer. Clark was also a member of the Town of Brasher Planning Board and enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes.
Clark is survived by his mother, Ruth of Helena; his brothers, Charles and Linda Johnstone of Honeoye, NY; John and Kathleen Johnstone of Lawrenceburg, TN; his nieces and nephews, Dan and Jessica Johnstone and their son, Viktor, Brian, Megan, John-Patrick, and Mary Johnstone; his step-children, Sara Besaw, Robert and Jason Munn; his step grandchildren, Samantha Bell, Moria and Satique Munn, and Dakota and Lindsey Besaw.
He was predeceased by his father, Walter W. Johnstone on September 16, 1996.
Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where members of the Masonic Lodge will hold a memorial ritual at 7:30 PM. A memorial service will be held Thursday 11:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Heather Stierheim, officiating. Burial will be held privately in Carville Cemetery, Helena.
