Flames engulfed a vehicle after it flew off the road about 7 p.m. Friday on Route 26 in the town of LeRay.
Jefferson County sheriffs deputies said Michael A. Hance, 19, of 8424 Willow St., who was operating a 2006 Mitsubishi sedan, veered off the right shoulder of the road, overcorrected and lost control of the car, causing it to slide into a ditch, where it became airborne. The car then struck the road and landed in a field, where it burst into flames.
Mr. Hance and his passenger, Steven M. Bevens, escaped the vehicle after it landed in the field. Both occupants were injured, according to the deputies report. No charges were listed.
