Glen Park- The funeral for Harold G. Pete Witt will be 1 pm Saturday, September 14th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Chapman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Dexter Cemetery. A calling hour will be Saturday from 12 noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Mr. Witt, 97, of Glen Park, passed away Sunday, September 8th at his home under the care of his family and Hospice.
Mr. Witt was born at Camps Mills, Town of Hounsfield, August 28, 1916, a son to DeWayne and Ethel Kellar Witt. He was educated in the Town of Hounsfield schools. Pete served in the US Army during WW II with the 194th Glider Infantry. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Mr. Witt was a truck driver by trade, working for several construction companies to include the building of Route 81. He later was a civilian employee on Camp Drum for many years retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Brownville United Methodist Church, the Allen Giles American Legion post in Brownville, the Brownville Masonic Lodge and the Brownville Jefferson Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He married Katherine Katie Nolan April 9, 1939 in Dexter. She died January 2, 2002.
Pete is survived by two sisters-in-law, Vivian Crump, Brownville; Beverly (Carson) Zacharias, Kirkville. Many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Howard in 1974; two sisters Hazel Denny in 1996 and Ruth Snyder in 1975.
