Massena spikers swept by FA

The Franklin Academy and Chateaugay varsity volleyball teams moved to 2-0 in Northern Athletic Conference action on Tuesday, with both teams posting sweeps over their respective opponents.

The Huskies traveled to Massena to battle against the defending Section 10 Class B champion Red Raiders and left with a 3-0 win.

Meanwhile, in the Adirondack Mountain village of Tupper Lake, the Bulldogs, the section’s Class D representative a season ago, also earned a 3-0 win to remain unbeaten in the early portion of league play.

FA 3, Massena 0: The lady Huskies were led by the play of standout Rachel Lamica, who collected 19 service points with 13 aces and added eight kills and had four blocks which helped FA win 25-5, 25-14 and 25-23.

Janelle Heden added a 10-point, three-ace, three-kill game while Karissa Beaudry followed nine service points and nine assists. Whitney Legacy served up seven points with a pair of aces and smacked five kills for FA. Brooke Peck chipped in with five service points and eight assists to the victory.

Chateaugay 3, Tupper Lake 0: In Tupper Lake, the CCS girls cruised to their second win of the season, dropping the host Lumberjacks 25-12, 25-2 and 25-12.

Kyle Hanley led the serving for the lady Bulldogs, collecting 19 service points with three aces, adding 14 assists to the victory.

Kendra King and Kira Ducote came off the bench to provide 13 and 10 service points, respectively, with King stroking three aces.

Caitlin Miller added nine kills and eight assists to the CCS win while Brooke Secore and Kim Reville added seven and six kills, respectively.
