CANTON - The Norwood-Norfolk varsity cross country teams opened the 2013 NAC season by gaining a tri-meet sweep on the road against Canton Central and Brushton-Moira on Tuesday.
In the boys meet, the Flyers produced the top three finishers as they downed the host Bears 16-46 while competing against an incomplete Brushton-Moira squad. Kyle Fulk led the 1-2-3 finish with a time of 18:24 while Adam Saucier and Deven Grant each crossed in a time of 20:59. Also placing for the Flyers were Gage Orologio, who was fifth in 21:12 and Tyler Hardy, who placed eighth overall in 21:52.
The girls meet saw the Lady Flyers take placed 2-4 en route to clipping Canton 27-28.
Cantons Laura Pierce ran first overall with her time of 19:51, narrowly outrunning N-Ns Kaycie Saucier, who placed second in 19:52, followed by teammates Leah Livernois in 22:02 and Hannah Gray in 22:03. Also contributing to the Lady Flyer victory were Skylar Fetter, who was eighth in 24:19, and Kate Wellings, who placed 10th in 26:53.
The Lady Flyers beat B-M 45-17 to complete the N-N sweep while Canton posted a 19-36 decision over the Lady Panthers to salvage the sweep.
In the other NAC season-opening meets on Tuesday, the Franklin Academy boys and girls teams earned a sweep at home over incomplete Potsdam and Salmon River squads while Gouverneur swept past visiting Tupper Lake and OFA.
