Hammond, Hermon-DeKalb Girls; Morristown Boys Soccer teams produce NAC West shutouts


The Hammond and Hermon-DeKalb Girls Soccer teams and Morristown Boys produced shutouts in NAC West Division play on Tuesday.

The Lady Demons rebounded from a 1-0 setback to Lisbon with a 2-0 victory over host Morristown while visiting Hammond rolled 5-0 past Clifton-Fine.

In boys soccer, Morristown blanked Hermon-DeKalb 7-0.

Hammond 5, C-F 0: Cassie Whalen produced her first shutout of the season making four saves as the Red Devils opened to a 3-0 halftime against the host Eagles.

Marinah Simons scored twice in the first half assisted by her twin sister Mariah Simons and Mikayla Horton. Courtney Bova closed out the first half scoring from Aly Crosby.

In the second half, Horton connected for two more - one assisted by Courtney Bova.

“Mariah Simons and her twin sister Marinah really worked hard today to control some balls. An eighth grader Ally Crosby connected with her first varsity assist. We have several younger players that are part of a strong young group of athletes meshing with their upper classmates to form a solid team this season,” said Hammond coach Shawn Dack.

C-F’s Savannah Crane made 15 saves.

H-D 2, Morristown 0: Brooke Woodrow scored just eight minutes into the game from Bridget Rust for the Demons and Chelsea MacKay turned aside 22 shots for the shutout. Woodrow connected from Kasey O’Donnell in the 47th for the second goal.

Samantha Green made 15 excellent saves in the Rockets net and was credited by Coach Danielle Folino along with Taylor Piercey for exceptional defensive efforts.


Morristown 7, H-D 0: Jake VanArnam struck for four goals one assist and Ryan Vollmer connected for a pair of goals and one assist. Zach Kanaly added a goal while James Richards and Devin Dulmage each logged an assist.

Luke King made four saves for MCS shutout and Riley O’Donnell (seven saves) and Ryan Matthews (six saves) shared the crease for H-D.
