CANTON - OFA put together its best game of the night in Wednesday’s NAC West Division Girls Volleyball action at Canton and just at the right time.

After coming from behind to win the third game 25-22, the Devils controlled the fourth game 25-17 for a 3-1 victory. A victory where the 2-1 Devils won the first game 25-20 and Canton (1-2) answered with a 25-23 second game win.

“It was extremely hot in the gym and our girls did a great job keeping their composure and focus. The Canton Girls just wouldn’t go away but in ther fourth game Emma Hart served the first five points and then gave us a six-point run to a 17-9 lead,” said OFA Coach Sue McLean.

“The girls have worked hard to reduce errors when it is just them and the ball. Tonight we served better than in our first two matches and our major hitters Taylor Fisher (4 kills, 3 assists) and Sky Hoover (10 kills, 5 points, 3 aces) only had one error apiece. That was big.”

The Devil coach also cited the trio of situational server Shanice Wallace (11 points, 3 aces), backline defender Sarah Richer and hitter Kiersten Morrow for forming a rotation to fill in for Adrianna Compo who was injured in the first game. Hart finished with 17 points, seven assists, seven aces, seven digs and four kills) and Taylor Perry passed out 16 assists, scored nine points and added three aces and two kills.

Rounding out a solid team effort were Paige Perry with three kills and Jessie Logan with 10 digs.

“My girls have improved a great deal since our first match. Tonight’s match could have gone either way,” said Canton Coach Carla Wentworth.

“OFA won the key points.”

Leading the Golden Bears was the hard-serving duo of Beth Pearson who scored 15 points wth 10 aces and Colleen Barkley who tallied 14 points with nine aces. Cianna Willmart netted four kills and Rachel Sanderson scored six points with four assists.

M-W 3 - M-W 0: “E-K played very well and we had too many unforced errors” said E-K Coach Troy Creuer after the Cougars prevailed 25-15, 25-22, 25-18.

Potsdam 3, Gouv 0: The Stoners (3-0) swept the Wildcats 25-5, 28-26, 25-16. Victoria Mondragon anchored the winning effort with 17 service points, three aces, and six kills. Miranda Mangual tallied eight points, seven kills and one ace while Sarah Vivlamore generated 16 assists off of 50 sets.
