High school soccer: Facey helps Canton top Potsdam

POTSDAM — Jake Facey scored an unassisted goal in the 50th minute to lead the Canton boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Potsdam in a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game Wednesday.

Tanner Sanderson scored the first goal of the game for Canton (2-1 overall, 1-0 division) in the 28th minute.

Ebuka Ononye tied the game for Potsdam (2-2, 1-2) in the 33rd minute.

VOLLEYBALL

POTSDAM 3, GOUVERNEUR 0

Victoria Mondragan scored 17 service points to lead Potsdam (3-0) to a 25-5, 28-26, 25-16 victory over Gouverneur (0-3) in a West Division match in Gouverneur.

Miranda Mangual tallied eight points and seven kills for the Sandstoners, and Sarah Vivlamore generated 16 assists.

For Gouverneur, Raenelle Durham registered eight points and five blocks.

OFA 3, CANTON 1

Emma Hart scored 17 points and added seven assists as the Blue Devils (2-1) defeated the Golden Bears 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17 in a West Division match in Canton.

Taylor Perry added nine points and 16 assists for OFA.

Beth Pearson led the Golden Bears (1-2) with 15 points, including 10 aces, and Colleen Barkley added 14 points, including nine aces.

EDWARDS-KNOX 3, MADRID-WADDINGTON 0

The Cougars (2-1) earned a 25-15, 25-22, 25-18 sweep of the Yellowjackets (1-2) in a West Division game in Russell. No statistics were provided.

BEAVER RIVER 1, SOUTH LEWIS 0

Kasidee Rhone scored on a cross from Kaylee Olmstead early in the second half to lift the Beavers to a Frontier League “C” Division victory over the Falcons at Beaver Falls.

Rhone’s shot deflected off the bottom of the crossbar and just barely inside the goal.

Goalkeeper Mariah Abel stopped eight shots for Beaver River (2-1).

Miranda Rys made 12 saves for South Lewis (0-4).

COPENHAGEN 9,

SACKETS HARBOR 1

Claire Stackel scored four goals and registered two assists as the Golden Knights remained unbeaten with a “D” Division triumph in Copenhagen.

Alicia Evans contributed two goals and an assist for Copenhagen (4-0), and Lexi Greene scored two goals.

Emma Roberts chipped in with a goal and a pair of assists for the Golden Knights and goalie Mackenzie Wheeler made two saves to notch the win.

Emma Mintz scored an unassisted goal for the Patriots.

LYME 4, BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 0

Yanna Ososkalo recorded a pair of assists and scored on a penalty kick in the second half as the Indians blanked the Panthers in a “D” Division game in Bellevile.

Taylor Brown scored two goals, and Lauren Barry tallied a goal for Lyme (3-0), which scored four unanswered goals after halftime.

Goalie Lauren Campbell made five saves, including stopping a penalty kick, in earning the win for the Indians.

Belleville Henderson is 1-3.

INDIAN RIVER 4, GENERAL BROWN 0

Erin Hesse and Kelsi Nabywaniec each supplied one goal and one assist in the Warriors’ crossover victory at Philadelphia.

Sarah Mattingly recorded two assists, and Sidney Black and Caitlin Pacilio also scored for Indian River (2-3, 1-3).

General Brown is 0-4.
