The North Country Arts Council is inviting the public to a viewing of its feature exhibit “Folk Artist Jim Burns and Heathen Artist Jesseca Trainham” from 5:30 to 8 tonight.

The exhibit, at Arts on the Square, 52 Public Square, features a posthumous presentation of the work of James M. Burns, a folk artist who worked in hammered metal and acrylic. Mr. Burns, Sackets Harbor, died at 71 in May.

In a 2010 story in the Watertown Daily Times, Mr. Burns, a Vietnam veteran, said he was particularly inspired by the attacks of 9-11. He owned a contracting business in Mississippi when they occurred.

“I closed my shop and became a full-time, wannabe, or starving artist,” he told the Times.

Ms. Trainham is a druid, and her art reflects Nordic traditional folk stories and lore. She plans to relocate to Oswego as a member of the newly formed Úthellingu Kindred, and she is considering becoming a gythia (priestess).

The event will feature light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. There is no admission charge.
