CANTON — Peter S. Blackford, 32, an inmate at Gouverneur Correctional Facility, was sentenced Monday in St. Lawrence County Court to an indeterminate 1 to 3 years in state prison for first-degree attempting to promote prison contraband, a class E felony, and as a second-felony offender.

That sentence is to be served consecutively to the time Mr. Blackford is serving for his July 26, 1999, conviction of first-degree manslaughter, a class B violent felony.

He also was ordered to pay $375 in court fines, fees and surcharges.

In court action Thursday:

Ronald A. McLean, 51, of 186 County Route 48, Norwood, was released under probation supervision after pleading guilty to attempted assault, a class E felony.

Mr. McLean told Judge Jerome J. Richards in court that on May 18 he had gotten into a fight with his wife and shoved her, causing her to fracture a rib.

Sentencing was adjourned to Nov. 6.

An order of protection has been issued for Mrs. McLean.

Tye Benedict, 26, of 43 Churchill Ave., Massena, was released under probation supervision after admitting to violating his original Jan. 27, 2012, five-year probation sentence given by Judge Richards for a class E felony DWI.

Mr. Benedict told Judge Richards that he had not completed any of the 240 hours of the community service that was a part of his probation sentence.

Additionally, he admitted to testing positive for cocaine and alcohol.
