SYRACUSE - The Potsdam Central varsity boys soccer team gained a 2-1 non-league decision over Henninger High School at Onondaga Community College field Friday night.
Ebuka Ononye scored both goals as the Sandstoners rallied from a 1-0 deficit.
This was a huge win against a very big school. They controlled the play, probably 60-40, and we were chasing a lot but we hung in there and converted two nice chances, said Potsdam coach Al Benda.
Henninger opened the scoring in the 15th minute and the Stoners (3-2) answered 10 minutes later when Ononye netted a penalty shot after a Potsdam player was fouled in the penalty area.
Ononye then chased down a throughball midway through the second half and chipped a shot into the net on a 1-on-1 with the goalie.
Potsdam keeper Jack Burns finished with 15 saves.
The Sandstoners complete their weekend trip to Central New York this afternoon when they play at Whitesboro High School starting at 1:30 p.m.
In other NAC boys soccer action on Friday, the first round of the Harrisville Tournament saw the host Pirates blank Edwards-Knox 2-0 and Gouverneur advance to the title game by beating Clifton-Fine 4-3 in a shootout after playing to a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime.
