Dorothy Danks


Dorothy Danks, 93, Farone Dr., Malta, NY, formerly of Watertown, passed away Thursday at the home of her daughter Barbara Davis under the care of family and Hospice.

Graveside services will be 1 pm Tuesday, September 17th at North Watertown Cemetery with Pastor Justin Morris, associate Pastor of the Parkside Bible Church, Watertown officiating. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Saratoga Springs, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Arrangements are with the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown.

She was born in Watertown, April 22, 1920, a daughter to J. Arthur and Mertie Adams Rathbun. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and Cazenovia College. Dorothy worked at the J.C. Penny’s in downtown Watertown, Chapin’s Florist and Chapin’s Watermatics of Watertown.

Dorothy married Willis E. Danks, September 1, 1938. Rev. Danks, a north country Methodist minister for many years, passed away July 15, 1996 in Watertown.

Mrs. Danks enjoyed playing the organ, sewing, gardening, travel, and genealogy research. Dorothy also enjoyed her time at their camp in Wanakena swimming and hiking. She was a volunteer at the Flower Memorial Library for many years.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Herchenroder, Northville, NY; Linda MacKay and her husband Roderic Lee, NH; Barbara Davis and her husband Norton, and Catherine Scoons and her husband James, all of Malta, NY; Timothy Danks and his wife Linda, Carthage. 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy’s two sisters, Doris Lee and Ruth Chapin died before her.
