To The Editor:
Aug. 25, 2013 will be etched on our personal lists of important dates. Only in our dreams or when enough of us gather and his name comes up and our stories told will we hear his voice again and see his antics play out once more. There is much to remember about this man of passion and compassion.
Sully was raised with an appreciation for all cultures. He travelled far and wide and experienced much. Eventually he became the man we know him to be professionally and personally. As a doctor and as a friend.
I consider Sully to be a Warrior while he was here, and now a Veteran. A Warrior is someone who fights for the health, safety and prosperity of the people. Sully performed those duties through his work and by sharing his personal passions. Is there a doubt among us that this is not the truth?
The nature of man does not allow for perfection. But the nature of a man does allow for great honesty and generosity. In those ways Sully was a man among men.
So it is with great honor that on this September day I present this Warriors feather to his close companion and confidant, a Warrior herself and a military veteran.
This is the center tail feather of a Golden Eagle. It is given to Warriors and Veterans for their valor and their commitment to the people. No one else may own one.
As you can see one side of the feather is not overbearing to the other. There is no left or right, no right or wrong, no forward or backward. There is only commitment to cause represented by the center shaft. The shaft is the only thing that keeps the feather from flopping in the wind, from falling over, from being nothing much.
This Warriors feather represents Sully. And it is now that I wish Rose, Sullys companion and confidant, Warrior and military veteran to be guardian over this remembrance and to consider it her own to maintain and do with what she may. With this humble gesture Rose, we thank you for taking such good care of our friend.
You are now, like the rest of us, on your own pal.
