M-W Boys stay unbeaten in NAC East

MADRID - Both Madrid-Waddington Coach Jeff Stein and his Brushton-Moira counter-part Adam Britton constantly urged their teams to “keep your shape” during Monday’s well-played NAC East Division Boys Soccer game on Monday.

Both teams turned in a shipshape performance in the contest where the 4-1 Yellowjackets rallied from a 1-0 deficit to record a 5-1 win and lift their NAC East mark to 4-0 leading into a division match with Colton-Pierrepont on Thursday in the first round of the Dan Rose Memorial Tournament where Hammond and Heuvelton will play an NAC West game in the first round.

“This was a very big win for us. Brushton-Moira played very well and really tested us today. For the past couple of games we have been dealing with the issue of playing without Jeff Mott who scored four goals last week against Parishville-Hopkinton,” said Coach Stein.

“Tyler Robinson picked up two nice assists today, stopper Jake Barney continues to be a key in our transition and Shayne Cryderman has done a great job a sweeper after moving up from the JV team. As a team we are playing well but we always want to work on improving our touch and working to create some excitement off our set pieces.”

The Panthers (0-2-0, 0-2-0 NAC) created the first scoring excitement on Monday when Adam Martin, who was relentless in his ball-carrying and support, set up Roland Bruce for a high shot into the cords after a quick break on the goal 6:47 before the half.

The Jackets answered with an opportunistic goal by Harrison VanBuren who converted a close range shot after a cross from Robinson skipped past an attempted clear by a defender.

Mike Cummings used a one-touch redirection on a long through pass from Robinson to break a 1-1 tie and an extended stalemate between the short-pass oriented teams with just 6:42 remaining in the game.

“It was a good game. Our guys worked hard at doing the right things,” said B-M coach Adam Britton after M-W’s T.J. Gagnon and B-M’s Taylor Tallman each made eight saves on the day.

SLC 3, N-N 1:N-N’s Zeb Brown opened the scoring when he relayed a defensive lapse into an unassisted goal 11 minutes into the game. Tyler Kowalchuk knotted the score with an unassisted goal in the 35th minute of the first half and set up Brody Simonds for the eventual game-winner.

Hadyn St. Hilaire made 17 saves for SLC (1-2) while Garrett Waite handled 11 shots for the Flyers (1-4-0, 0-3-0).

P-H 7, SRF 1:The Panthers surged their way to a 4-0 halftime lead in raising their record fo 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the East.

Wyatt Snell returned from injury to lead the way offensively with three goals. Justin Frank chipped in tallied two goals and an assist. Chateaugay 2, C-P 0: Tyler Jones took a pass from Dylan Labare midway throught the opening half to put the Bulldogs in front 1-0. Chad Stalter netted the second CCS (2-0).
