Town Council must keep residents informed

My name is Dennis Pearson, I am a 20-year resident of Cape Vincent running for Town Council. I am running because I believe the obligation of local government is to create the conditions for its citizens to thrive. Instead, what I see is a board that chose a divide-and-conquer strategy. The results are a community spirit that is more negative than I have ever seen in the Cape.

The beginning of the way out of this predicament is to first instead of operating out of the open meetings process is to keep the citizens informed of all actions leading to any resolutions. You only need to look at Water District 6 to see the opposite has happened.

Commitments were made to citizens and then changed or ignored at the last meeting. The village, which will also be involved in Water District 6, has not had any contact with the town about the board’s intentions for current users of village water.

If a board performs in front of the citizens even though they may not agree with the decision, there are no surprises. Instead of using the law to get around an issue, you should meet it head-on, not only for the citizens’ benefit but for the benefit of the board. If we get this process down, that will give us as a comunity the ability to move on to better things. We have a comprehensive plan that talks about docks for boaters. This has been in the plan for many years and never acted on. This could be of great benefit to the Cape. We should act on it or, if it is not feasible, move on. One final thought. We as citizens of the Cape collectivley have the ability to do great things but only if we work together.

It’s our choice. When you vote, vote for the future of the Cape. Vote Dennis Pearson.
